History Of Calicut

Kozhikode is centred in southern India on the Malabar Coast in the state of Kerala. Being the largest urban area in the state and 192nd largest urban area in the world the city enjoys its rich culture and age-old history. Kozhikode is otherwise known as the  “City of Spices”, being the major trading point of eastern spices.

As we all know that India was found by Vasco da Gama and it was the then period where spices were identified and exported to abroad countries. The Portuguese explorer landed at Kozhikode on 20 May 1498, thus opening a trade route between Europe and Malabar.
