Ian McCall was supposed to fight Dustin Ortiz at UFC Fight Night 73 but sadly had to pull out due to injury. McCall (13-5) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on Episode 115 of The Parting Shot Podcast this Sunday to talk about his most recent injury. Injury that compelled him out of Dustin Ortiz fight at UFC Fight Night 73″I have a tear in my shoulder, in my labrum and a tear in my own nostrils. I mean I am literally in the physicians now speaking about it. It’s what it is, we train hard and I am brittle apparently. I have to pull from a lot of s**t. It stinks, but when you train as hard as I do and you have been doing this as long as I do, its part of the game” Career Plagued with Injuries”My UFC profession has been only been plagued with accidents and it’s frustrating. This is my chief source of income, I have other things I do but this is my main source. I have a little girl to feed, that I feed my own and it sucks. However, on a different note, this really is my enthusiasm; this is what I love to do. I am 31 years old, I am not getting younger I’ve been in struggles for 13 years. To watch my body neglect me time and time again it is hard. It’s one of those things it makes you wonder a good deal. I’m such a healthy individual, my loved ones is like amazingly healthy, and you know my kid really needs a really strict diet. I’ve had my hip, groin tear, that can be bad. I’m sure I will need to get a hip replacement . I have had three hand surgeries. I got into a car crash not too long ago and messed up my shoulder. It’s always something, but it’s better than having a real job.” Being Positive and Optimistic”A lot of my life I’ve been a pessimist to become honest. I look at it in various ways, it could be worse, I could be dead. I might have lost full use of my arm or anything. There are a lot of things I consider. I must keep a positive mindset because I must be a fantastic role model for team-mates along with my little one. It’s one of those things I’m not going to sit around and sulk. That’s what it is, I will be al right.” Ideas on Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson II in UFC 191″Demetrious is evolving and I think that now he has discovered a little more power in his punches. His overall game is constantly changing and getting better. I believe he’ll conquer Dodson, is he going to complete [him]? I don’t understand. I believe this is one guy he’ll have difficulty finishing. He finished Horoguchi with one minute left, and as much as I wish to beat his face in, he is incredible. He is the exact guy you want as winner when it comes to performance. I’m likely to go with him on this one for certain.” Reduction to John Lineker”Oh man which was enormous. I got overly emotional; I showed the first round I could definitely beat him. People were like’Oh he is a bantamweight’ I don’t care; the man still is not very good I must have beat him. I believe I showed that you’re not going to knock me out even though you’re a huge puncher. My face will split open before you knock me out and that is precisely what occurred. With me it is outside matters, they constantly distract me, girl issues or what have you. I just kind of dropped after that round. I’m smart enough to know I was going to lose that struggle sitting backstage. Anthony Kiedis and Dane White came around and said hello and I’m just kind of like, I’m screwed. That was a mental thing, that has always been my biggest downfall. I have a new mental coach, he’s my mind Sherpa. He’s overall made me a much better person. As far as my optimism goes, he is a large part of it” Feeling Overlooked at Flyweight Division”I wouldn’t say overlooked, there is other folks to discuss. I blew it with John; I screwed up in this fight. So maybe I don’t deserve to be talked about it. Let’s say this harm is just 6 months, they’ll talk about me then, that is fine. There are other people that deserve it. Regardless of how good I can be or how good I am, it’s not my turn. DJ needs individuals to fight, the division needs people to move and shake and make a big stink. I don’t mind it, it’s cool, whatever.” Raising a daughter as one dad”Yeah it’s not simple; realistically I don’t know anything about girls. I know how to get one in bed that is about it. I sit there sometimes and stare at her like’what is going on?’ Don’t cut your own hair, do not put soap in areas, like I do not understand. Realistically I’ve a lot help, I live with my father. My dad got a divorce, he said proceed in, and I will help you out. My dad’s retired so he sort of plays mother on a daily basis. My step mother is still about; my kid’s grandma is around so that I do have a great deal of help. So I am not going to say I am doing so alone, because I am not. It takes a village to raise a baby and I received a village of people around me. Even though there are days where I have to take her to the gym, there is always someone there. She is pretty damn independent I can take her to the shore; she can run about and swim on her own. She is going to be fine.” UFC Reebok Uniforms”I used to work for a fashion design firm; the only fighters I hang out with are either people I am forced to hang out with or my friends. I hang out with artists, fashion designers and musicians and stuff. They are hideous, like Jose Aldo said we seem like f***kin Power Rangers. The gear is actually comfy; clearly Reebok makes a great product. I really don’t know who made the layout, regardless of what generation we’re in 80’s 90’s, which does not match anything, it’s just ugly. But maybe I am wrong; perhaps I am searching for something a little cooler looking. Its functionality based gear; that’s all that matters. It is an evolution of the game. We needed it to excel, sure we’re not likely to have paid that much cash but it is what it is. In case you’ve got a problem then stop, these are the numbers we must deal with. Now if you are smart and you can market yourself and advertise yourself in ways like I’ve. I have outside patrons; I have Layrite, which is like a hair and mustache merchandise. I have got a lot of clothes and lifestyle companies. I get a good deal of exposure from materials like this. People today will need to learn to step outside the boxmake money for themselves and have a smart agent” Ideas on Reebok Deal”Yeah that would have been fine, but at exactly the same time they run a business. They operate a multi-billion dollar corporation that is a premiere sports league. If you find the machine that is the UFC, in the inside it is incredible. The people are excellent; the business design is simply amazing. I would never say anything bad about the way that it’s all run, it is amazing if you enjoy company. The matter is that they didn’t need to consult with us because it’s their business. We’re a commodity; as far as I want to say trendy we should be earning money such as baseball, football and basketball. Since we ought to we’re really putting our lives at stake. But we are not and I do not want to quote Urijah Faber, he said’I got into this for the cash’ honestly I catch it, I am a businessman.” Outside sponsors”Financially I’m going to be fine. I’m going to find methods [to earn money]. I own part of a social media company, I own a series that I host called Direct Endorsement, also it is a big charity matter. I have other things that’s going to make me money, so I will be fine. I do believe for guys that don’t have much else or men that aren’t that smart. But that is their own fault, figure out it it’s not rocket science.” Being on Joe Rogan’s”Fight Companion” show”Yeah I was talking to Joe not too long ago. I’ve a developing friendship with Joe for quite a while, we always talk about it but it’s a little bit of a drive from my house with all the traffic. I’ll be up there soon, I must do some stuff in the area so that I’ll be on there soon.” You follow Ian on Twitter @Unclecreepymma and his sponsor DirectEndorcements.com.
